In June 2007, thousands of music educators and their students traveled to Washington DC for the National Anthem Project Grand Finale, which raised the profile of music education nationwide. “The National Anthem Project Finale was such a success that music students and teachers encouraged Music Educators National Conference (MENC) to continue this program,” MENC President Lynn M. Brinckmeyer said. “So in 2008, once again music educators and students from across the country will congregate in the nation’s capital. We’ll perform together in an effort to continue to remind decision makers in Washington DC about the importance of music education in the nation’s schools.” |
The 2008 event will take place in Washington DC June 12-15. Plans are to include a concert on the National Mall featuring a national anthem sing-along. Student ensembles will once again have the opportunity to perform at Washington DC’s historic memorials. Bands, choral groups, and orchestras are invited to perform at the event. Dates: June 12 (Thursday) – 15 (Sunday), 2008 Location: National Mall Washington DC |
